UNIQLO-- great savings!

Yesterday I went to UNIQLO and picked up some really great items! For those of you who live in New York City, you may have seen the UNIQLO ads on the subway or even seen tourists pass by with the shopping bags in hand, often with a cartoon character like Mickey Mouse or Hello Kitty on the other side.

From the outside, the UNIQLO store may just look like a glorified GAP but, it's so much more.

Although the clothes in UNIQLO are colorful, they are quite plain and simple in design. This is definetely a place to find staples for your outfits!  That is why I ended up going to the store after work yesterday when I heard how big of a sale they were having. One of the stores I've ALWAYS gone to when I was in need of some pants or denim jeans has been the GAP. I always felt that the jeans there fit me the best but, recently, I was tempted to (and took the plunge) in branching out.

These jeans (Skinny Straight Jeans) were on sale for only $19.90 each (which is a GREAT bargain!). The jeans are usually only $39.90 anyway but, the signage in the store shared that this is their way of introducing people to their jeans without having to make that 100% investment up front.

I am excited to wear my jeans and if you are NYC, make sure you hop on over to closest UNIQLO near you before it's too late!

Spring Style Forecast.

As a lot of you know, it is Fashion Week here in NYC, a time when the biggest and best fashion designers (many upcoming designers as well) get to see the fruits of their labor hit the runway. But for me, like many others, it is time to start re-organizing my closet and finding some staple outfits for the Spring. One of my favorite websites to browse is Modcloth.com. Although I must mention that I have never purchased anything from this site, I do love looking at all of the vintage style pieces that they have to offer.

Here are some of my favorites from the past few weeks:

Again, they are all from modcloth.com

If you like clothing that has that vintage/retro look, I would highly reccomend this website!

Kim Kardashian Style.

I have mentioned before that I am a big fan of the Kardashians, mostly because I love their style. Below I will post some of my favorite outfits from Kim. What I love about the KDASH girls, is that they always look so put together and glamourous, even on a normal day.

What do you think of these outfits?

To buy the boots or not to buy the boots

One of my favorite parts about winter is that I get to wear my UGG boots.

Now, I know that some of you may not be fans of this shoe.
I can understand (and agree!) that the classic UGG boots are not the most stylish pair of shoes around. I have been wearing classic UGG boots for the past 4 or 5 years and really love how warm they keep my feet. Living in New York, it is always a task to try and find shoes that are comfortable There were a few days last winter where outdoor temperatures were close to 10 degrees! Living in NYC, I get around using mostly using public transportation and sometimes the bus isn't very reliable. What's a girl to do? I put on my trusty UGG boots and even if the rest of me was freezing, my feet were alway warm!

I still have a pair of chocolate brown and a pair of black but, a part of me wanted to see what else UGG was offering this season. I have a number of favorite boots this season but, my absolute favorite has been the Mailyn boot (seen below).

I actually went and tried these on and I DO love how they look on me.
However, I just don't know how  practical they are for everyday wear.
Although I may change my mind sometime in the future, right now,  I am pretty confident that I am going to hold off on these for the moment. I will just continue to admire them from afar...

Have you ever given up on a clothing or shoe item because of its practicality?

combat boots.

My combat boots. Nine West- Meatball.

I fell in love with combat boots sometime last fall, when I first started seeing women on the streets of New York with them on.

One of my most recent (and most worn) purchases has been a pair of Nine West combat boots. I searched for a long time before I found the perfect pair for me but, when I saw the "Meatball" shows on the Nine West website, I knew I had to have them!

I love that combat boots can be paired both with very casual outfits and even with more fancy outfits. I recently wore my pair of black leather combat boots with gray textured high-waist jeans from the GAP (my favorite store!) to a sports game. It was a great and comfortable pairing that was not only practical but, stylish as well. I loved going out and getting compliments on them. Even though the trend surge may be declining, I think that this will be a staple piece in my personal wardrobe for years to come.

Have you ever been inspired by street/military fashion? Do you have a pair of combat boots?

Fashion for A Good Cause.

Today I am wearing this shirt! Although I purchased it sometime last winter, this was only my second time wearing it. I was immediately drawn to purchase this shirt after I heard that a large part of the proceeds would be used to fund releif efforts in Japan after the earthquake and tsunami disaster. I felt that this would not only be a great way to help out but, also, make a bold fashion statement.

runway hair

High Fashion Fishtail Braid
Gretchen Jones at Spring 2012 Fashion Week

I don't like the way that the top part of her hair is styled but, I LOVE the loose fishtail braid! This is more of a casual look of course but, I love it for the fall!

What do you think about this look?

Strapped Boots.

(Layla, Nine West & Giles Deacon. Fall 2011)

Boots with straps seem to be all the rage this FALL season.

I was first introduced to this trend about a month ago, when I spotted the newest shoe from Nine West, produced by the company in collaboration with Giles Deacon. Giles, a fashion designer from the UK, designed the beautiful boot, Layla, pictured above. I have noticed a lot of other boots following suit with the same strappy detail. Check the shoes out below:

excited for Fashion's Night Out 2011

One of the days I am super excited for is Fashion's Night Out.

(this shirt is a part of the FNO official collection. 40% of proceeds go to charity.)

Last year I went with one of my good friends and we hit up all of the stores with great events going on that evening, all in the name of fashion. This year Fashion's Night Out will be on September 8th,  and the event serves to not only promote fashion but, increase shoppers to go out and have fun while boosting the economy. According to the explaination on the event official website, "Fashion's Night Out is an unprecedented global initiative created in 2009 in a partnership between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry's economy, and put the fun back in shopping."

This year I won't be able to stay out for long because I have a prior engagement :-(.... but nevertheless, I look forward to enjoying an hour or two out on the town looking at all of the fashionistas of New York.

One of the more interesting things that I have found about FNO is that even some of the higher end salons in the city join in on the fesivities... after all, hair is one of the most important parts of an overall look (on or off of the runway!) Many of the salons offered great deals and cheap services for Fashions Night Outers and I was made aware of some places that I'd never known about but, would LOVE to go back to.

I'll be sure to update with some details (and maybe even some photos of FNO 2011)!
